Action: On 12 May 1944 the advance of Sepoy Kamal’s company was stopped near the river Gari, Italy, by four separate enemy machine-gun posts. Knowing that the capture of this position was of extreme importance, Sepoy Kamal volunteered for the destruction of the machine-gun posts. He managed to outflank the first pair of machine-gun posts and put them out of action, killing most of their crew and taking the others prisoner. Together with a Havildar he managed to put the third machine-gun post out of action in the same way as the first pair. His exceptional brave behaviour saved, without questioning, a difficult and tough situation during this battle.
Details: Later promoted to the rank of Subadar.
