On 25 November 1941 an allied attack on El Duda Ridge near Tobruk, Libya, was beaten off by heavy fire from enemy anti-tank guns. Captain Jackman and his unit stormed forwards in order to break through. During this attack he endangered his own life when he was directing his troops to their correct positions. He motivated his men by his calm and brave behaviour and when they reached their positions they managed to put the enemy out of action. During the next attack on El Duda on 26 November 1941 Captain Jackman was wounded mortally.
