On 9 July 1944 Major Blaker was in command of a company pinned down by machine-gun fire during an attack near Taunghi, Burma. Despite being hit several times he kept advancing at the enemy. Even when he was mortally wounded and lying on the ground he continued to cheer on his man. His men were inspired by his act of bravery and stormed at the enemy eventually securing the target.
