The Order of the Crown of Romania was instituted on march 14th 1881, four days after the day of the crowning of King Carol I on march 10th 1881.
The order knows a total of five classes:

Grand Cross:
This is one of the most beautiful awards. It is formed by a 87 mm wide, eight pointed star. It shows some gold inlays. In the middel of the outer star you can finf a bright eightpointed star made out of beautiful red enamel with white edges. In the middle thers is to be found a red circle, surounde by a white ring, with a golden crown in the middle. The text in the white ring reads: "Prin Noi Insine" (meanins By Ourselves Alone) and the date "14 martie 1881"
Of the Grand Corss there were in total awarded, 200 to civilians and 50 military.

Knight:
Awarded for bravery in war or merit in time of peace. It could be awarded with or without swords. It is somewhat simplified to the Grand Cross. It shows only the inner cross. The cicle shows the golden mongram of King Carol. The same inscription can be read on the outerring as in the Grand Cross.

Originally the Order was only meant for civilians. On februari 22nd 1938 there was created a special military division of the Order.

The Ribbon is colored Red with blue edges.
