Recommendation:
For having distinguished himself by deeds of particularly courageous and tactful nature in action against the enemy as second in command and later as commander K.P (Knokploeg) in northern Drenthe, having performed meritorious service in organizing so called “weapon drops” which had actually been used during the liberation in April 1945, notably during the fighting near Smilde and Appelscha.
He led the raid on the Huis van Bewaring (penitentiary) in Assen on December 11th, 1944, freeing some 30 underground warriors who were waiting for their execution and subsequently could be redeployed in the resistance. During this raid he forced his way in using cunning and violence and by his daring conduct managed to keep the guards at bay.
He repeatedly came in armed contact with pursuing landguard or police, managing to evade capture by his audacious conduct.
He set an example to all in his resistance group.
